A Relief Sculpture
This is a bronze relief sculpture found on the Soldiers and Sailors Monument in Athens. The monument itself is located on college green and consists of four bronze statues. One atop a pillar and three surrounding that pillar. However, between the infantryman and cavalryman statues lies this bronze plaque. The plaque depicts three of the men from the rest of the monument as well as a child and a young boy with a drum. This Greek frieze known as, "Battle Between the Gods and the Giants" is located on the Sanctuary of Apollo in Delphi. This would be a marble relief sculpture carved into the space just above the pillars that held up the roof of the Sanctuary of Apollo, and would have been visible only from the outside. It displays the signature style of the relief sculpture by being a protruding semi 3D sculpture jutting out from a flat surface of the same material. Both the marble and the bronze examples would be defined by this explanation. -Jackson Thomas
